Welcome from the Associate Project Director
Dear MTP partners and new associates,
Transitioning from the UB Model Transition Program to UB's Center on Rehabilitation Synergy is near completion. MTP has applied the concepts of all the training we've so professionally delivered to your staff in the past two years. As you can imagine, we're feeling nervous and unsure of the future just like the high school student morphing into the work world or college life. We've defined our dream, outlined our goals, and laid out an action plan to help us take the steps necessary to reach our dream.
What is our dream? The Center on Rehabilitation Synergy (CRS) wants to make a difference in improving the skills of rehabilitation and education personnel, advocates, and individuals with disabilities. The MTPs across NYS have each made a significant impact on transition education... More
From the Field

The Rockland Transition Consortium's "Transition: Pathways to Success" conference was held at Rockland Community College's main campus in Suffern on September 30. The keynote speaker for the conference was Keith Jones. Mr. Jones is president and CEO of SoulTouchin’ Experiences, an organization that addresses issues of access, inclusion and empowerment for persons with a disability. Senior trainers from the Model Transition Program provided six trainings during the conference. Here, Sarlyn Tate (state2@buffalo.edu) establishes a rapport with her audience before presenting “Mentoring Youth in Transition.”
Trainer's Corner
Chris Siuta (crsiuta@buffalo.edu) draws on his background as a counselor and therapist to improve the schooling experiences of students with disabilities at MTP projects in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Dr. Siuta has helped develop the curricula for Self-Determination, Solution Focused Communication, Adolescence and Disabilities, and Transition: The Parent Role. He will talk about ways that teachers can improve communication in the classroom.
