Target Audience
Students, special education teachers, general education teachers, school counselors, school social workers, transition coordinators, school administrators, school psychologists, paraprofessionals, parents, and family members.
Course Key Ideas
This training will provide an overview of the career development process and describe how this process can aid students with disabilities in transitioning from secondary education to life beyond high school.
Overview/Description
- Explains the development, content, purpose and implementation of the career development processes
- Training is structured in a “step-by-step” format to serve as a guide for professionals interested in implementing career development activities
- Involves hands-on, experiential activities that staff can adapt for use in working with students when exploring career options
- Personal testimonials from people with disabilities will be included in video format to help bring the training to life
Learner Outcomes
- Participants will gain an understanding of how self-knowledge can be used to explore meaningful career goals
- Participants will explore the various stages of career development and discuss how to implement these methods in their interactions with students
- Participants will discuss how VESID and community resources might be able to assist students throughout the career development process
- Participants will walk away with a “Career Development Starter Kit” complete with resources and activities to use with students
